Baron, S. W., & Hartnagel, T. F. (1997). Attributions, affect, and crime: Street youths' reactions to unemployment. Criminology, 35(3), 409-434. The authors studied street youths' reactions to labor market experiences found links to anger and other attributions which increase crime rates. A study strength included the large sample of 200 male street youths. Findings showed that family and school had little effect on criminal behavior, but unemployment leading to homelessness, drug use, and criminal peers did effect criminal behavior. A study weakness was that it relied on self-report measures.
