Corcoran and Mallinckrodt (2000) studied adult attachment, self-efficacy, perspective taking, and conflict resolution. The authors noted that youth violence continues despite efforts to resolve this problem. Research has pointed out that attachment influences conflict style, however studies have failed to determine mediating mechanisms. Subjects for the study included 124 parents who completed surveys related to these variables. Surveys included the Rahim Organization Conflict Inventory-II, The Attachment Style Questionnaire, the Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index. Findings showed a relationship between secure attachment and mutual forms of conflict resolution. Findings also suggested the mediating effect of social self-efficacy on social competency, which accounted for negative associations between attachment avoidance and mutual conflict style.
