This is an excerpt from the paper...

School violence is one of the foremost issues of concern to educators today. Violence among today's young people, especially at school, is labeled by many health professionals as a potential threat to the overall health and academic success of children (King, 1998). Terms defined in scholarly studies typically are limited to those terms that are directly relevant to the research problem and the research questions investigated. In this study, however, a large number of terms are defined for the general reader. While many of these terms have no direct relevance to the research problem or research questions investigated, the terms are relevant to the general education environment. A total of 16 terms are identified. These terms and their definitions as they are used in this study are as follows: Assertive Discipline. A form of classroom management. Comprehensive Assessment of School Environments (CASE). A battery of assessment measures, created by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), to measure school climate through a survey organized into 10 different subscales to determine the respondent's perception of school climate (Kelley, Glover, Keefe, Halderson, Sorenson, & Speth, 19
