Effect of School Uniforms

research on the strategy thus far reported in the literature has not resulted in a consensus of the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of a school uniform policy for students (National Association of Elementary School Principals, 1999; King, 1988; Brunsma & Rockquemore, 1998; National Association of Elementary School Principals, 1998; Paliokas & Rist, 1996).

The purpose of the proposed research study will be to assess the effectiveness of a student uniform policy in public schools. The frequency and severity of student violence and other disruptive behaviors, as well as teacher perceptions of school climate, will serve as surrogates in the proposed study for the effectiveness of a student uniform policy.

One primary and three subsidiary research questions will be investigated in the proposed study. These research questions are as follows:
