Taiwan is still adjusting to the 1999 Earthquake, but in 2000, tourists still continued to come in. As in previous years, Japanese nationals by far outnumbered visitors from other nations. In 2000, Taiwan saw as many as 916,000 arrivals from Japan, up 10.9% from the previous year, while the second largest contingent came from Hong Kong with 361,000 visitors, up 12.97% year-on-year.
