The fundamental assumption is that because these are hierarchical religions which are organized with males serving as authority figures and male gods underwriting that authority, females inevitably will suffer in intimate relationship. They will be more likely to be subject to verbal or physical abuse than women not subject to patriarchal religions or subcultures. The problem here, of course, is that all women in the United States have been influenced by a culture that is still acknowledged to have a Judaeo-Christian foundation.
