Multinational corporations are those companies which offer products or services in different countries throughout the world, adapting their products to the countries in which they are selling. Global companies are companies which operate with a high degree of consistency regardless of the country in which the operation occurs ("Practical," 1991). At multinational companies internal practices are also changed to reflect the environment of the various countries. The result is that multinational companies have higher relative costs associated with their international operations than their global counterparts.
Countries such as Egypt and Pakistan, which have a high level of education but not a high level of jobs for their population will have to find ways to build up their domestic economies or they risk losing these talented individuals to other countries that are more economically appealing. It can be in the best interest of global companies to assist in this effort. Aside from being able to take advantage of a highly educated work force, these companies can also build up demand for products without significant competition. By building operations in these countries using local workers, global companies can help build the infrastructure necessary to build long-term opportunities for workers in these countries.
