The public school system in New York city budgets only about $35 per student for books, compared with as much as $450 per student budgeted by Manhattan private schools. The EBF plans to raise $1 million from non publishing sources, and will solicit book donations from publishers in an effort to provide a book to each of the more than one million children in the public school system. This EBF will send catalogues, along with a $1000 credit, to schools that will allow each school to get a free book for each one they purchaseĀ·the equivalent of paying 25 cents for each book.
