Media Role in American Politics

f the media in American politics may be characterized as positive. Frequently, however, media commentators and media companies in the United States introduce either an overt bias or an unconscious bias based on their class and social perspectives that cause this role of the media to be less than socially desirable. In is the actual or the perceived bias in critical analysis by the media that causes so many members of the public in the United States to be distrustful of the country's mass media.

Election Campaigns and the Nature of Government and the Political System in the United States

The political system in the United States is structured to provide for the ultimate seat of political control in the nation to rest with the non institutionalized adult public. The only way in which this principle can be implemented is through a determination of the public will of the majority of the population. Elections are the most direct approach to the determination of the public will of the majority of the non institutionalized public in the nation. Thus, elections in the United States reflect the essential philosophy upon which the political system in the nation is structured.

Election campaigns, in turn, serve, to allow competing candidates and competing political parties the opportunity to state and explain their positions on important issues, as well as to attempt to persuade the majority of the members of the American public that the positions they espouse are superior or at least more desirable than are those of their opponents.
