The increasing life span means, on the one hand, that the market targeted by the company will maintain its numerical strength. Conversely, however, the longer the members of the members of this market live, the greater are the chances that (a) they may require assisted living services beyond the scope of those now provided by the company and (b) the may exhaust their financial resources to the point that they will not be able to pay the fees charged by the company (Bureau of the Census, 2003). To address these potential developments, the company is (a) studying the issues associated with an expansion into major assisted living services and (b) advantages and disadvantages of developing annuity programs that would provide residents of the company's facilities with an assurance that future affordability would not become an issue.

The company was created for the express purpose of providing services to the market of older persons who want to live independently while simultaneously reducing without completely eliminating the demands of residential upkeep and maintenance. As a continuing strategy, the company identifies, acquires, and modifies existing properties to serve the needs of its target market in the future (McCarley, 2003).
