Mandatory DUI License Suspension Laws

by (1) drivers who have never been charged with a DUI offense, as well as (2) persons whose driving privileges have been suspended because of a first-time DUI offense. An assumption is made that fatalities attributable to automobile crashes wherein the fault lay with a driver committing a third or higher DUI offense should not be counted with respect to the effect of mandatory suspension laws, as it is obvious that the legal loss of driving privileges has no impact on the driving behavior of such individuals. A further assumption is made that fatalities attributable to automobile crashes wherein alcohol was not a causal or a contributing factor should not be counted with respect to the effect of mandatory suspension laws related to DUI offenses because no such crashes are not linked to DUI behavior. A last assumption is made to the effect that a reduction in fatalities attributable to automobile crashes may be equated to the reduction of economic costs incurred by society, and that a reduction in economic costs may be inferred to be an economic benef
