Management Retention At Ford Motor Company Plant

hin the context of the components of a job that affect perceptions of satisfaction, such as work, pay, promotion, coworkers, and supervision, as is done in the Job Descriptive Index (Smith, Kendall, & Hulin, 1969, pp. 5-7). For purposes of the proposed study, job satisfaction will be defined within the context of the factors included in the Job Descriptive Index. Thus, job satisfaction/job dissatisfaction among first-line supervisors at target sub-unit of the Ford Motor assembly plant will be assessed within the contexts of work tasks, pay, promotion, coworkers, and supervision.

Literature relevant to the problem investigated is reviewed in this chapter. The review topics are performance and reward, organizational commitment, occupational stress, work overload and underload, alienation, job "burn-out" and job satisfaction, role definition, and related studies.
