Job satisfaction also is defined frequently within the context of the components of a job that affect perceptions of satisfaction, such as work, pay, promotion, coworkers, and supervision, as is done in the Job Descriptive Index (Smith, Kendall, & Hulin, 1969, pp. 5-7). For purposes of the proposed study, job satisfaction will be defined within the context of the factors included in the Job Descriptive Index. Thus, job satisfaction/job dissatisfaction among first-line supervisors at target sub-unit of the Ford Motor assembly plant will be assessed within the contexts of work tasks, pay, promotion, coworkers, and supervision.
