Generally, a learning organisation: creates a success model; assesses the individual and his or her skills in relation to the success model; communicates the importance of closing the gap between current skills and what other skills are needed; provides organisational members with learning opportunities, in terms of both job assignments and academic activities; provides organisational members with the opportunity to apply those skills on the job; and provides feedback on performance (Bell, Taylor, and Thorpe, 2002a).
