Concrete operations is the next stage (7-11 years) and includes more organized and logical thought with abilities to perform multiple tasks and solve problems ("Stages of," 2005).

This early development is followed by a period of formal operations (11-15 years) in which the adolescent is able to incorporate abstract and logic principles, generating propositions, hypotheses, and evident outcomes with less ties to a concrete reality. This stage continues throughout adulthood however some never reach this cognitive developmental stage. Formal operations allow for the adolescent to understand mathematical problems and to reason in the face of facts ("Stages of," 2005).
