For SNCC, taking up the gauntlet of women's rights is a natural progression. Many women (including white women such as Connie Brown) embraced SNCC and joined in SNCC's activities and protests (Klatch, 1999). The cause of civil rights was a cause dear to the hearts of feminists and a cause that is also embraced by NOW as that organization struggles to realize the full empowerment of women and all vulnerable populations.
