rganizations have stereotyped and scapegoated feminists in an effort to demonize liberalism, to promote the New Right's vision of family values, and to organize conservative women against liberal feminism (Hardisty, 1999).

For SNCC, taking up the gauntlet of women's rights is a natural progression. Many women (including white women such as Connie Brown) embraced SNCC and joined in SNCC's activities and protests (Klatch, 1999). The cause of civil rights was a cause dear to the hearts of feminists and a cause that is also embraced by NOW as that organization struggles to realize the full empowerment of women and all vulnerable populations. The need today is to create for women of all colors
