Transformational leaders who use individual stimulation exhibit a high level of awareness of current employee problems. Ways in which this awareness is created include life experience, the ability to handle ambiguity, the ability to handle complexity and uncertainty, and the demonstration of intellectual courage. The third type of transformational leader uses consideration for the individual, which is considered the final behavioral pattern of the transformational leader. Leaders who exhibit this trait understand their individual subordinates through one-to-one interaction. These leaders have a concern for and a belief in their individuals (Matey 601).

In today's modern organizations, transformational leadership offers managers the greatest ability to deal with the rapidly changing workplace. Complex organizational and environmental factors require the flexibility that this leadership style offers since it enables managers to include workers on decisions, and can empower workers to have an increasing level of control over their work and how it is performed. Such involvement with job design and performances eliminates some of the day-to-day management activity of the transformational leader, and enables the leader to pursue avenues that can bring change to the organization that have long-term benefits (Matey 601).

Transactional managers respond to change, where transformational managers bring about change. A transactional manager reacts to changes in production quotas, for example, by requiring that employees either increase their hourly output, or work overtime to meet the new standards.
