Instead of having a single site where users can search through all available titles, N2K uses several different sites, each targeting a specific product niche, to generate sales. In addition, the company hosts sites based on music genre (such as rocktropolis.com and jazzcentralstation.com) as well as by artist (stonesworld.com and leonardbernstein.com).

Similar to CDnow, N2K does not carry its own inventory; instead it also uses Valley Media for order fulfillment. Credit cards are required for purchases at N2K, and the company does not maintain a physical store location.
