Braithwaite's (1989) theory of reintegrative shaming has been increasingly used to explain how social control efforts may result in both conformity and deviance. Using this theory as an interpretative framework, the authors' study examines the relative effectiveness of a specialized drug court in reducing recidivism risks.

2.Zhang, Lening: (1997) "Informal reactions and delinquency" Criminal Justice and Behavior 24 (1) pp 129-150

Zhang, in addressing the informal labeling process and juvenile delinquency, used data collected in the National Youth Survey to indicate the significant role of informal reactions as well as the use of reflected appraisals and behavior. for the youths' subsequent life and behavioral adjustments. Zhang also assesses the uneven development of the labeling perspective on deviance.

3.Calhoun, Lawrence G.; Cann, Arnie; Tedeschi, Richard G; and McMillan, Jamie: (1998) "Traumatic events and generational differences in assumptions about a just world" The Journal of Social Psychology Vol 138 (6) pp. 789-791

The authors explain their empiric studies about how individuals' perceptions of the world as benevolent, trustworthy and just influence their reactions to events that happen to them and others. The authors' research tends to suggest that such foundational assumptions like the perception of the benevolence and justice of the world are not always influenced by traumatic events.
