One significant thought is that a listener or reader may perhaps engage in a "psychological connection of the events." A brilliant example of this is the first Greek storyteller, Heredotuse, who told about the Egyptian king Psammenituse. As Benjamin points out, as the art of storytelling has diminished, "the gift for listening is lost and [the] community of listeners disappears" (91). This is a problem even in our everyday lives, as we come to understand how crucial listening is and how little we do it in our families, schools, and communities.
