ISAIAH

as one of the most eloquent men who ever used the Hebrew speechaTo him God was holyaBut, unlike Amos he looked for repentance and revival" (Soares, 1941, p. 45). Part of that repentance, as indicated in the assigned verses, meant that he (and Mankind) had to be cleansed of sins. To show that some of the prophesies ascribed to Isaiah here actually are quoted elsewhere, one need only look at some New Testament verses. For example, in mentioning John the Baptist and his "call", in Matthew 3:3, "This, in fact, is the one spoken of through Isaiah the propheta" (Holy Scriptures 1984 1218) Isaiah's description of the message from God is echoed in other writings. For example, Ezekiel 1:23: "And he proceeded to say to me: Son of man, stand up upon your feet that I may speak with you" (Holy Scriptures, 1984, p. 1058).
