The proposed investment project will include the construction and operation of a 400-room resort hotel. The United States-based Corporation making the investment proposal will include the development of ecologically sensitive access paths into the Corcovado National Park. All construction of access paths, toilet stations, and emergency services within the Corcovado National Park and outside the Park will be consistent with strict environmental protection guidelines provided by the Government of Costa Rica and the United Nations. All tourist- related activities will be conducted under the supervision of trained employees, and such activities will be conducted in ways that are fully consistent with strict environmental protection guidelines provided by the Government of Costa Rica and the United Nations.
The country risk assessment for Costa Rica was derived through the application of the checklist assessment procedure. Thus, both political and financial factors were considered in a macro and a micro context (Madura, 2005). Prior to generating numerical values for the components of the assessment, however, relevant political and financial factors are discussed.
Tourism generally and ecotourism specifically are important to the economic performance of Costa Rica. Therefore, from an economic perspective, the United States-based Corporation developing this investment proposal should not anticipate opposition or regulatory hindrance from the Government of Costa Rica (International Monetary Fund, 2004).
