had a client that was looking for some Asian venture capital. One of our associates in Tokyo got the fax, and put one of his clients together with the guy in London. That was during the time (late 80s) when you could walk down the streets in Tokyo and just smell the money. We took five percent on both ends of the investment deal and our consortium pocketed about $800,000.

Q. We're supposed to ask you how you spotted the opportunity?

A. Well, there are opportunities all around. What we've been good at is keeping our eyes and ears open. For instance, back in 1990 (four years before the Internet) we put ASAP on the computer service called CompuServe. There were about 100,000 customers on that service then, and practically no businesses. One of our associates wrote a "how to" manual explaining how to use CompuServe and we started offering it for sale. $10 I think. And we talked to the CompuServe people and they agreed to make an offer to their subscribers. We sold 20,000 books and then turned the whole thing over
