In Los Angeles the problem of America's damaging on-screen images is acknowledged as serious, and professional panel discussions and debates deal with the role of American entertainment in the shaping of global attitudes toward the U.S.

Some critics call the phenomenon of U.S. media domination cultural imperialism or Coca-Colonization (Nye, 2002, 4). A French sheep farmer, Jose Bove, has become a cult figure since destroying a McDonald's restaurant in 1999. However, according to Nye, globalization is neither homogenizing nor Americanizing the cultures of the world (2).
