Music Therapy: An Article Critique

ith respect to the capacity of quiet music to lead to reduced levels of agitation among elderly patients, however, the author provided only speculative comments, as opposed to theoretical concepts.

The theoretical framework of the article could have been improved through the inclusion of established concepts related to the use of music as therapy. Additionally, the inclusion of theoretical concepts related to the effects on patients of Alzheimer's Disease would have been useful in relation to the elderly population studied.

The theoretical concepts included in the article were drawn from both the disciplines of psychology and nursing. With respect to nursing theory, Roy's model was the focus of the discussion.

The literature review included in the article examined several studies that investigated the effects of music in relation to reductions in the levels of agitated behaviors. The studies reviewed were appropriate as support for this study within the contexts of both research objectives and populations studied.

The theoretical framework for this study was stated explicitly in the article. The theoretical framework involved a melding of Hall's and Buckwalter's Progressively Lowered Stress Threshold Model and Roy's Adaptation
