"The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"

artake of the pleasures of life, given his age and the general idea that from this point on, life is in a downhill direction. Prufrock sees himself as one of the background people in life--he says he is not Prince Hamlet, not the center of attention, but a minor player. His most courageous act is the one he is undertaking now--to face his own mortality and to consider the meaning of his life as it begins to change.

His world is a world of literary teas, with the women coming and going and only pieces of conversation getting through to Prufrock. It is evident that he feels out of place in every setting he describes, from the afternoon tea to being along on the beach. He has reached an age where he cannot be spontaneous but has to consider whether or not he dares to act at all. For Prufrock, society is repetitive, tied to the past, and damaging to the individual who has to be both an individual and part of a larger group with rules and limitations placed on each member.

2.Dexter Green is a 14-year-old boy who lives in his own world identified by his dreams. This does not mean he is lost to the real world, however, for he knows how his dreams are related to the real world surrounding him. He has been working as a caddy, but he quits that job rather suddenly because his dreams of winter relate to a girl in the real world and thus guide him in making his decisions. Judy Jones is a beautiful girl who attracts this young man, and it is necessary for Dexter to follow his dreams of wealth and success in order to rise on the social scale to a level that will allow him to be on the same level as Judy Jones.
