as concluded that the social interactions learned in kindergarten are the same kinds of interactions that children will use in their adult lives for purposes of acquiring and keeping social status and power. In effect, kindergarten children are learning lessons in status negotiation.
V. Critique - One strength of the study was that procedures and purposes were clearly stated and, further, purposes were well tied into formulated conclusions. The author does indeed reference prior studies, about 19 in all. The sample size (80 conversations held by 24 children) appears adequate.
