Private logic refers to the client's concepts and notions (his/her general philosophy) of self, others, and life. The Adlerian view holds that psychopathological conditions such as depression are the result of these notions and concepts failing to conform to the realities of social living. thus, the use of the Adlerian approach, via the strategy of private logic, can be used to explore and correct Susan's perceptions giving rise to her depression.

The need to correct these perceptions is imperative because Susan needs to work effectively with her son in order to help him change his behavior and her depressive mood is obstructing this effort.
