e overtly expressive of their sexuality. Their sex drive is high and they think of sex often because of its connectedness, in their minds, with acceptance, approval and personal adequacy. Also, the strong sex drive of the physically sexual type serves as a means of repressing and/or suppressing negative emotions. Physical sexual types are comfortable with physical expressions of love and emotion but uncomfortable with their emotions generally. Therefore, they use their physical needs as a mask behind which they hide their emotional needs.

Subdominant (emotional) sexuality introverts or does not outwardly express sexual drives. Commonly, there is difficulty with emotional expression in general; however, the real fear is in connection with the expression of physical needs. The body and its needs and drives is viewed by the subdominant/emotional sexual as in need of protection through projection of emotions such as fear or embarrassment about sex.

In other words, there is a tendency on the part of the emotional sexual or subdominant person to avoid sex because he or she feels embarrassment or fear. The person of subdominant or emotional sexuality defends, or suppresses or represses sexual feelings.

There are several advantages to understanding sexual behavior from the hypnotherapist's point of view. First, it places control over one's sexuality, sexual expression--even sexual preference--within the capabilities of the individual. If an individual's sex life dissatisfying, he now realizes he or she can take action to change it. The advantages of this perspective for people with sexual dysfunction seem obvious.
