Computed tomography scans

CT scans can be used to detect lipomas in the internal auditory canal, as reported by Wang, Tien and Hsu (2001), who used it to diagnose the cause of progressive left side hearing loss in a patient. Characteristic CT findings of lipomas have been documented. Fat is hypointense on CT scanning, and this is reflected by the negative Hounsfield units.
