continued to be dropped off by their parents. They group played with the action toys, and picked up the clay several times. They spent more time with the toys than with the clay. At one point Josh said, "Put their feet in the clay--they get stuck." Todd, David, and Troy pounded the figures feet into the clay. They did, in fact, appear to be stuck.

Josh's father stayed near the door, speaking to the preschool director. Josh had already said goodbye to his father, so when his father finally did leave, Josh did not appear to notice. The other boys' parents appeared to be in a hurry. They came over to the table to give the children a goodbye hug, but the boys continued to play with their clay-laden action figures. Josh left the table, and asked one of the teachers if he could turn on one of the computers. The teacher said that he should wait until later in the morning when it was computer time. The noise level in the center was beginning to build. David and Troy left their table, followed by Todd. They went to say hello to their children who were now quickly filtering in. While he was walking across the room, Josh "lost" a shoe. He took of both his shoes, and his socks, and left them in a pile. A teacher asked him to put his shoes back on. He picked up the pile of shoes and socks and carried them back to his initial table. The preschool day was about to begin. The other children were watching him put his shoes and socks ba
