The goals of "therapy" as it normally is operated is to "cure" the patient to the point where he or she is happier than before and better able to function in society. The goal of this therapy is more permanent, ultimately designed to render the therapist obsolete (at least in the life of the patient under consideration) and improve the patient's life both now, and in the eternal future. Also, a more important goal but one less relevant to the subject now at hand, is to glorify God by producing more "fruit" for His kingdom.

The average counselee has likely heard much of this before, and will therefore usually resist this method of "therapy." A counselee's refusal of the Christian model is ironic in that any psychotherapy undergone by a person is accepted on faith that it works.
