If the parents did not know of the visit to a career counselor and had their own ideas on the child's future job they were paying him or her to be educated for, they may be incensed at the news. Additionally, they themselves might not be Christian, and so would take that news negatively as well. All of their negative feelings would probably not be vented on the unwitting adult stranger (though this has happened, openly rebuking a stranger is not considered socially acceptable) but on the child they know and love.

The counselor who hears of this situation would have to calm counselee and parent, correct the counselor, and perhaps even arrange a meeting with all three groups to straighten out purposes and intentions of each one. However, the parents might not attend such a meeting and the counselee might not want it. The counselor intervening here would more easily detour the parents onto another topic altogether, such a
