Media Coverage of O.J. Simpson Trial

to this study's examination of the affects of locus of control, dogmatism, and sex-role identity on attitudes toward the media coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial, this section of the chapter presents a review of the literature on the relation of these variables to attitude formation and maintenance. The reviewed studies are divided into three categories: (1) Dogmatism and Attitudes; (2) Sex-role identity and Attitudes; and (3) Locus of Control and Attitudes.

Several studies have investigated for the kinds of attitudes and behavior that arises from dogmatic thinking. For example, Kedem, Bilu and Cohen (1987) examined for relationships between dogmatism, authoritarian attitudes and right-wing radical activity in a known radical group living in Judeah, Gush Emunim (N = 34), and in a group of nonactivists (N = 32).
