Kennedy notes that Europe then was diversified and separated into different regions by its geography (Kennedy 17). Kennedy finds that the dynamic nature of interactions between these different regions produced the climate for the progress that was made leading to the global perspective and dominance of Europe in a later period. Shifting patterns of military strength produced an arms race. The free market system produced improvements in the production of goods. The battle for weapons supremacy had a number of consequences, including the rise of seapower (Kennedy 22-24).
