Simultaneous fractures of two bones on the same limb (tibia/fibula, radius/ulna) were counted as one fracture. Data were obtained on 1,000 birth cohorts from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study as comparison for fractures occurring in the general community.

Results of the study showed that children in the study had low dietary calcium intakes, reduced bone mineral content, and low volumetric bone density values (252). More study children than expected from comparison with community children had suffered fractures: 16 observed and six expected. Twenty-two fractures were confirmed, and all occurred before puberty.
