re pronounced. The footsteps in the woods never reveal to us who is making them. The dripping of the water and swoosh of the sprinkler watering system lead the mind to an 'increased awarenessÆ of these unordinary beings, placing them in a mundane type of job (gardening) and making us more comfortable with identifying with them as a type of us.
At this point, an owl hoots. When it hoots, the ETÆs become more visible and, in a way, more magical. What appears to be their hearts or middles lights up in an obvious attempt of communication. We are now aware that though separate, they are all connected. We are also aware that this connectedness is special.
One of the ETÆs digs up a ginger root or truffle with a bunny nearby. In this shot, our final fears are calmed about the true intent of these beings. The rabbit does not run away in fear, but continues eating grass.
We have begun to receive now a more strongly 'increased awarenessÆ of these creatures as they are separated through labor concerns. They are here with a purpose and they set about to quickly realize that purpose. While they are laboring this purpose, ET (our main character) wanders away from the group mesmerized by the magical wonders of the new world around him.
At this point, the film utilizes perspective to show us insight into the main character. Rather than being the omniscient observer, we move into the restricted view of ET and his observance of this magical new world.
