This fact is troubling to many:
The rest of us have to live with the plague of trendy consequences - cigar bars, cigar boutiques, cigar accessories. And because anything clubby could mean business connections, cigars are being promoted as something "good" for women. Consequently, when they smoke them (the number of female cigar smokers has risen threefold in the last five years), it's as if they're striking a blow for equality (Snowden 312).
Whether women or men are smoking cigars, there are health risks that are being ignored. Many believe that because cigar smokers do not inhale and because they indulge their passion only occasionally, cigars are thus not as dangerous as cigarettes. Whether they are as dangerous is not as important as the fact that they are dangerous in some degree, just as secondary cigar smoke is hazardous to the health of people forced to breathe it.
