Even more egregious, the only other translator in the geo-politically vital language of Turkish was also hired due to nepotism, and could speak English at only a grade school level. To make matters worse, he was sent as the only Turkish translator to Guantanamo, where he was incapable of communicating in English things he may have learned during the interrogation of detainees, information that might potentially affect not just the prisonerÆs future, but the lives of thousands of people as well.
Then there was the matter of another Turkish translator married to a U.S. military officer who systematically labelled as matters of no interest documents relating to criminal investigations of an international organized crime ring involved in sales of arms and drugs to which she and her husband apparently belonged. This couple eventually tried unsuccessfully tried to recruit EdmondÆs husband when they visited their home.
