Toward a New Psychology of Women

r says that individual development proceeds for men and women only through affiliation. Men are not at present as ready to know this. Authenticity is the power of being oneself, and for women this has been spoken of seriously only recently, though it has long figured in the concerns of men:

Authenticity and subordination are totally incompatible. But a tendency peculiar to men's view of authenticity has obscured the fact that relationships can lead to more, rather than less, authenticity (98).

Miller suggests a new view of psychology that wold empower women to achieve authenticity and to eliminate the subordinate position in society.
