The proposed study constitutes evaluative research of the Building Trades Program at Pueblo Community College. To provide context for this study, this section of the proposal examines the effectiveness research relevant to Trades programs at community colleges.

An effectiveness study of community college students taking trades and other occupational courses was conducted by the Illinois Community College Board (1992). Specifically, in March 1992, 1,947 fiscal year 1991 graduates of selected occupational programs in the Illinois Community College System were surveyed concerning their objectives for attending college, current educational status, present employment status, salary, employment start-up, geographic location of employment, and satisfaction with their employment and the educational program they had completed.

A total of 1,128 graduates completed usable surveys for a 57.9 percent response rate. Study results included the following: (1) 8
