The study collected occupational stress data from staff including information regarding their perceptions of the demands, supports, and constraints they perceived themselves to be under. The amount of stress felt by each person was also assessed. In addition, sociodemographic and other background data were collected from staff.

Survey data was based on a 72 percent response rate for hospital staff, a 64 percent response rate for community unit staff and a 79 percent response rate for group home staff. Analysis of survey responses indicated that, unlike community unit staff, the hospital and group home staff reported relatively high levels of strain.
