and behavior. Their lack of education combined with the shift to a post-industrial economy affects them directly. They are now members of the secondary labor market and they express their masculinity through violence. They blame the African Americans for their deteriorating conditions.

The Brotherhood have not done much better. They believed that a high school education would be their ticket to success but the shift in the economy meant that a high school diploma was not enough for white-collar jobs. Although they went to college, they worked in low-paying jobs with little security. They still had to fight racism, and they too became part of the secondary labor market. This means they are doing no better than their parents and for this they blame themselves.
