Some of the research on the effects of the physical attractiveness of children has examined whether degree of physical attractiveness influences popularity. Krantz (1987) examined for popularity effects in a sample of kindergarten children. In order to obtain a judgement of popularity not contaminated by friendships among the children, information on children's physical attractiveness levels were collected prior to the start of the school year; these ratings were obtained from both children and their mothers. Interestingly, findings revealed that physical attractiveness was correlated with popularity for girls but not for boys.
