That is, curricula is developed based on student interests, and involves the application of human problems and affairs. This educational philosophy is judged to be most in accord with the curriculum proposed for development in this project and will be used as the study's underlying philosophy.

Ramsey (1983) has noted that one of the most difficult areas of instruction is that of social studies which she conceptualizes as, in essence, multicultural education (the teaching of different ethnic/cultural modes of thought, behavior, mores, rituals, and values). As to why social studies courses are so difficult to teach, Ramsey asserts that this is because the curricular assumptions of these classes are often based on misconceptions.
