state investment represents the largest single asset group in the United States. Thus, in spite of the alarm raised in high growth states, such as Florida and Texas, and other large states, such as California and New York, foreign ownership of American real estate at the $35 billion level does not pose a significant threat to the country (Myers, 1990, p. 10).
Data pertaining to the foreign investment in American real estate are presented in Exhibits 1 and 2, which may be found on pages three and four, respectively. In Exhibit 1, data are presented relative to total foreign investment in the United States, and, separately, real estate investment in the United States. These data are presented in dollar values for the 1985 1990 period. In Exhibit 2, data are presented with respect to the proportional relationship of foreign real estate investment in the United States to total foreign investment in the United States. These data are presented in percentage form for the 1985 1990 period. Year to year growth data pertaining to foreign investment in American real estate are also presented in Exhibit 2. These data, too, are presented in percentage form for the 1985 1990 period.
As the data presented in Exhibit 1 indicate, both total foreign investment in the United States and foreign investment in American real estate increased in aggregate dollar value in each Exhibit 1
