Mixed Research Design
This is an excerpt from the paper...
Nature of the Research Approach, Basic Design and Variables The proposed study utilizes both quantitative and qualitative traditions and can therefore be termed a "mixed research design" (see: Creswell, 1998). The primary purpose of the research is to determine whether there are significant differences in the effects of three teaching strategies in reducing the aggressive behavior of non-verbal, autistic children. Participants in the study will be counterbalanced by gender across the three teaching strategies which is to say there will be equal numbers of boys and girls exposed to each of the three strategies. This will result in the following 3 x 2 factorial design: Strategy A Strategy B Strategy C ----------------------------------------------------------------- _________________________________________________________________ As can be seen from the graphic depiction presented above, for the qualitative element of the study, there are two independent variables which are: (1) the Teaching Strategy variable with three levels: A, B, and C; and (2) the Gender variable with t
