Continued Learning Plan

The purpose of this paper is to write my personal and specific plan for continued learning in four specific areas of knowledge. These areas are: critical thinking, computer literacy, information literacy, and nursing informatics. The paper discusses the plan for learning in each area and closes with a summary statement. According to Schumm and Post (1996) critical thinking is the ability to thinking logically and cohesively. It is a method by which the mind seeks to understand and evaluate information. Schumm and Post (1996) also note that critical thinking is judgmental which is to say that in seeking to understand presented information, it judges ambiguity, whether a formulated conclusion is warranted, and whether statements made are acceptable and rationale. The authors further state that critical thinkers are willing to spend all of the time needed and required to reflect upon ideas. They are logical thinkers who are diligent in seeking out and finding the truth of a claim. They are able to see and understand alternative points of view and are open to new ideas even when these disagree with their existing opinions. They are able to see connections between topics and use knowledge from other disciplines to enhance their abilities and understanding. hands-on experience with lectures and text that relate the skills and abilities that are being taught to both critical thinking and computer literacy. Therefore, this particular course should help me not only with information literacy but with two other areas that are important to my career development.
Research courses MSN 591 and MSN 592 will also assist me in learning how to access and utilize information and to then relate the obtained information to various and specific research projects I may wish to work upon. Thus, these courses will not only teach me information literacy, they will also help me to apply the skills and knowledge gained in practical ways which is what will be required when I am working in an actual healthcare setting.
Computer Literacy
Saranto and Hovenga (2004)define computer literacy as the simple and basic ability to read and write on the computer However, Kerfoot (2002) expands upon this basic definition to include the ability to locate and use information using computer technologies. Further, Kerfoot notes that this being "the information age" computer literacy should not be restricted to merely the know-how of using the computer for the basics of writing, reading and obtaining information; but,
