Despite these difficult experiences at school, Bundy was a good student and maintained high grades during junior high, high school and college (Michaud & Aynesworth, 1983, p. 19).

It was while he was in high school that Bundy improved his social skills. He became more popular with his classmates, as he developed a more outgoing personality. Despite his newfound popularity, Bundy did not have many girlfriends. Instead, he focused more on extra-circular activities, including politics and skiing. Indeed, politics would remain a subject of great interest for Bundy throughout his life, and he would eventually find work in that career field (Larsen, 1980, p. 24).

After he graduated from high school, Bundy studied at the University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington. He had to work throughout college in order to have money for tuition. He did not hold the same job for very long, as his employers found him to be irresponsible (Michaud & Aynesworth, 1983, p. 31). But despite his poor job performance outside of school, Bundy was a very dedicated student. It was not until 1967 when he met a woman named Stephanie Brooks, whom he would fall in love with, that his studies began to fall off. Indeed, Bundy's relationship with Stephanie would have an irrevocable impact on his life (Michaud & Aynesworth, 1983, p. 34).

Stephanie came from a wealthy family in California, and possessed the kind of sophistication and breeding that greatly impressed Bundy. It was difficult for him to believe that a woman from such high social standing could be attracted to him.
