oman's life. In one study by Jensen, Christenson and Transbol (1982), estrogen was administered. The study consisted of 285 70-year-old Danish women. Two retrospective studies had previously found a "protective action of estrogens" against postmenopausal fractures. They involved elderly women with fractures of the lower forearm or hip. The present study was entirely different. Few of these women had received long-term estrogen therapy, and postmenopausal fractures were extremely common. Twenty percent of these women had bad multiple fractures. The aim of this study was to find a relationship between postmenopausal estrogen therapy and subsequent bone mineral content and fracture rate. The women were placed in three groups. The first group of women was treated for no more than three months. The second group of women underwent treatment from four to 71 months. The final group of women was treated for 72 to 240 months.
